Importance of Title Tag 14th January 2010

What Is a Title Tag?

The title tag has been – and probably will always be – one of the most important factors in achieving high search engine rankings.

As a matter of fact fixing just the title tags of your pages can often generate quick and appreciable differences to your rankings. You can view the title tag in the source code of a web page or at the top of your browser window.

What should your Title Tag contain?

Consider your Title Tag as a representation of your company website by your core keywords of the most important services and offerings. Depending on what product or service you are providing, your core keywords should stand out in the title of your index page before anything else. You can also add your company name in the title tag but it best to use most important keywords in it. The keywords should be relevant to the content of the website otherwise the crawler would never crawl on your site and you will not achieve the desired rankings and traffic on your site.

How long should your Title Tag be?

Realizing the importance of a Title Tag when optimizing a site it is important that you consider the length of characters being included within this tag. The title tags should span no less than six words and no more than twelve which result in about a range of fifty to eighty characters; this includes spaces, hyphens, commas, etc. This will enable the crawler of the search engine to read the keywords in the title tags more effectively, thus which will result in increasing your rankings. Crawler also gives great importance on the placement of the keywords so the most important keyword should be at the start of title tag.
